Okay, so here's what happened.

My mother's surgery went well, but last Thursday she started getting a little groggy, and by Friday morning, she had gone into septic shock. The nurses came in and found her non-responsive with her blood pressure dangerously low, and barely a pulse. My sisters and I all went down there, driving 6 hours to be with her in her last moments, hoping we'd get there in time.

As it was, she started responding to the fluids, they put her on a very strong and aggressive antibiotic, and over the past 5 days, she's gotten somewhat better.

She still has the cancer. There's a tumor in her abdomen, but it isn't life-threatening immediately. She still does not have movement in her left side (the one brain tumor was putting pressure on that region, and she might not get it back for several weeks). She's still very weak and shaky.

But she's still with us. Insisting on going through rehab instead of hospice.

It's such a weird, numb feeling I have right now. I'm overdrawn by almost $500 to pay for that trip, I don't know how I'm going to buy gas and groceries for the next four weeks (getting in the black will take my entire paycheck), I'm not even sure I can get through an entire day of work today without breaking down and going home...

... but none of that's important. She pulled through and now we have some more time with her. I just need to figure out how to arrange my life now so I can work as one of her caregivers. We're hoping to have her at home by the end of February.

I won't be able to go down there for at least another two weeks - longer if I don't get my 1099s in to file taxes. She's losing strength and weight every day, and we're getting very frustrated because the people in the home aren't doing anything about it.

Thanks. She's not doing well where she is. They're not paying attention to her nutritional needs and she's losing a lot of weight. Right now, she looks like a malnourished, starving person. I've had a friend take some protein shakes over to her in hopes that she'll drink them and get some calories and nutirents

My sister and I are also looking into hiring a nutritionist to go and help out.

We're also collecting information for possible malpractice suit. If she dies this week, it won't be the cancer, it will be starvation. We're very scared... and 400 miles away.
